What The Seller Say’s - 209 Falcon Crest Way Pickens, SC 29671
Things you love about you town:
The things we love about Pickens are: it is a small town, close knit community with a close proximity to the culture available in nearby larger cities (Greenville, Ashville, and only a few hours from Charlotte, Atlanta, Charleston, Savannah). The splendors of nature are virtually at our front door national forests, state parks, hiking trails, lakes, trout fishing streams. There is a tremendous variety of experiences in this area.
Tell us something about your neighborhood:
Our neighborhood looks out upon some of the most spectacular scenery in the Southeast. Mountain views and national forests surround us. Neighbors are welcoming and friendly. A special blend of people from all walks of life and parts of the country and interests. Gettogethers among neighbors are common, including potluck dinners, social Sundays, holiday celebrations, life celebrations, and each other. You're only a stranger here once, then you are home. A most caring and supportive group of people. Neighbors who watch out for each other but are not intrusive.
Where do you love to eat:
Fine dining is a staple of nearby Greenville. To name a few favorites: Rick Erwins, Sobys, Larkins, Ruths Chris, American Grocery Restaurant. Other outstanding restaurants nearby include Restaurant 17 and Shortfields. For a more informal outing, we like to visit Brevard, NC, which has a great variety of restaurants, including Dugan's Pub. A wide selection of fast food restaurants are also available in Pickens.
Grocery stores and other conveniences?
In Pickens/Easley, Publix, Bilo and Ingles are easily accessible. Sams Club is also located in Easley. Whole Foods, Costco, Trader Joe's are located in Greenville. Big box stores and malls are plentiful in Easley and Greenville.
What were you drawn to when you bought the property:
When we bought the property we were drawn to it primarily by the natural and scenic beauty of the area. We have a spectacular view from our back porch. The cost of living was also a motivating factor.
What do you love about the area:
The area is wonderful because of its natural beauty and the proximity to culture and some of the most interesting cities in the United States. The area hosts a variety of outdoor activities both on land and the water as well as numerous cultural events. Numerous historic events relevant to both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars took place in the area, Paleolithic script can be found on exposed boulders. There are hiking trails within a mile of the home. You can be as active as you want or as lay back as you want.
A few other things we can mention are the monthly programs at Hagood Mill, trips to Ceasar's Head, Table Rock State Park, Twin Falls, Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee and drives along the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway. The Pickens County Museum offers art classes and sponsors a variety of cultural events. Clemson University, Furman University, and Bob Jones University are nearby as are several technical schools. The area also hosts a number of artists and crafters. The local library offers different classes for adults and children. Try some Clemson blue cheesey umand visit the tunnel where it use to be made. If you like the casinos, try Cherokee in North Carolina.
What other things do you love / enjoy about the area:
The serenity and quiet of our surroundings. The friendliness of the people is overwhelming. People smile, wave, shake hands, and always love to stop and chat if they know you or not. Within a short time you meet so many people that it's rare to go anywhere and not see one of your new friends. We are a four hour drive to Charleston and five hour to Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, tweo hours from Atlants, an hour from Asheville.
We've spent a lot of time golfing at our home course as well as numerous other courses in the area. We all like different things, but we enjoy golfing, kayaking, painting, writing, hiking, and fishing. Blueberry picking at Happy Berry is something you need to try.
Coming from Chicago, we were appreciative of the low tax structure and the reasonable utility rates for gas, and electric. We do business with Blossman Gas, Blue Ridge Electric, Blue Ridge Security, C&C Exterminators, and C&M Gas. Our area has underground wiring so no power lines. In case of any outage, Blue Ridge is great for quickly restoring service. The fireplace is converted to propane and gives off plenty of heat. Water is private and we are billed $96 quarterly. We have Verizon for internet. We have C&C Exterminators come in quarterly and spray inside and out. They do a great job and we've never had any issues with insects. They also check for termites negative and we have a transferable bond.
